I'm a writer from Minnesota. My work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Ringer, The American Scholar, and elsewhere. This story was recognized as a “Notable” selection in The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2021.
My first book is Warplane: How the Military Reformers Birthed the A-10 Warthog.
I am currently at work on a book for Counterpoint Press called The Thunderstorm Project: The True Story of the Storm-Chasing Pilots Who Sought to Master the Sky, which follows the early inventors, bureaucrats, balloonists, and swashbuckling flyboys of the WWII-era who conquered stormy skies, advanced meteorological and atmospheric science, and gave rise to today’s commercial aviation industry.
I hold an MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University, where I’ve taught in the past. I teach writing at Oberlin College.
